Hello, Blog Readers!

Life is busy, busy in the Moore household these days....but I set aside some time today to blog.  How's everyone doing?

My oldest started SIXTH GRADE (!!!!) a few weeks ago, and my youngest started THIRD.  Time is going so quickly. *sniff  They both are doing GREAT in school so far, so I am very thankful for that.

As I posted previously, I resigned from teaching preschool this year.  Preschool just started, and it's weird seeing everyone's first day of preschool pics on Facebook and realizing that I'm not there...but it's good.  I know I made the right decision, and I am enjoying being able to spend my time doing things that I really want to do.  I'm super swamped with craft projects for customers and projects for myself as well.  Hubby and I recently decided (ok..I decided) to redo our bedroom, and it's been a very slow work-in-progress.  I am LOVING the results, though! I hope to share pics soon.

I'm still scrapbooking every now and then, too.  I've been focusing on older photos and getting them put away into albums.  The best way I've found to do this is through pocket pages!  I have gotten SO MANY photos scrapped this way lately, and it has been a huge time save for me!  I'll share a few of my pocket pages with you:

As you can see, I've got everything from old Christmas photos to our Disney World trip, old baby pics, older sports photos, Chicago trip pics, and more.  Pocket pages are so easy and practical for me!  I just mix them in with my traditional layouts, and I'm getting lots of photos scrapped that way. Can't beat that!

DIY Reclaimed Wood Art

Long time, no blog! ;)

What's been going on in your world? Mine's been crazy busy.  My sister and I have a Facebook page where we sell our handmade items, and that has been a great extra income (but a LOT of work!) for us both.  I've also been working on redoing our master bedroom, which has been a slow-going process.

I painted the walls "Revere Pewter" by Benjamin Moore after seeing rooms in that color pinned so many times on Pinterest. I LOVE the color...so nice and neutral, but really pretty and clean looking.  We've just bought a few things here and there as we could to revamp our space it make it more "us."  I'm going with a gray/teal/white color scheme, and so far, it's coming together very nicely.  But like I said....SLOW-going process.

What did we ever do before Pinterest? Seriously...love it.  I've pinned so many craft ideas and rooms I like on there, and that's where I'm getting all my inspiration for our bedroom redo.  Today, I finished up and hung an art piece that the hubby and I made.

Mine isn't near as distressed as the inspiration piece because I wanted a cleaner look...but I'm super happy with how it turned out!  My grandpa had some old torn-down fence panels that he gave me to make this with. It looks great hanging on my freshly painted wall! :)

Happy Friday, everybody! So glad to see this busy week come to an end. Even though we had last Monday off for Labor Day, it still was a LONG week.

I haven't had much scrapbooking time lately with school starting up and all, but here are my September 2013 projects for The Scrap Room monthly kit club:

Remember me?  Yeah...haven't blogged in FOREVER....but here I am.

Just quickly sharing my Sneak Peek for The Scrap Room September 2013 kit today.  This month, I did something I've never done before.  I challenged myself to use ONLY photos that I had printed already, mainly older photos.  It feels great getting all those older photos into the albums!  I will share all of my projects after reveal day, but here is my sneak:

Look at my baby boy! *sniff  He's a 2nd grader now....yeah....SECOND GRADER!!  We started school this past week, and everything is going great.  I now have a 2nd grader and a 5th grader.  Time flies so fast!

Anyway, these pictures were taken one day when my little guy and I were outside playing with sidewalk chalk while big bro and dad were shooting water guns.  It was just one of those lazy summer afternoons where we were just enjoying being together outside in our backyard.  I love days like that. :)

I hope you all have had a great summer! I hate to see it come to an end, but I am looking forward to some cooler temps.  These 100°+ Texas heat days sure do start to get old after a while.  Happy Labor Day weekend, everyone!

Just Scrapped 17 photos!!!

Good morning, everyone!

I'm awfully chipper for a Monday morning.  Wanna know why?  NO SCHOOL TODAY!! Woohoo!  Our school is having a "Bad Weather Day," and since we never had to use one of our allotted weather days this winter, we get today off.  We slept in until 8:00 a.m. (I remember when that used to seem so early to me), and now the boys are up watching MLB Network (ugh) and having a bowl of cereal while I work on laundry and catch up on the computer.

I haven't done much scrapping lately, but I did manage to get these 2 pages done from our mini vacation through a drive-through wildlife park a couple of years ago. I used scraps and leftovers of kits with some divided page protectors and got these done in no time!

The best part? That's a total of 17 photos scrapped and documented!!!! I love using divided page protectors to get a lot of photos scrapped in a nice, uncluttered way.  Pages go together so quickly using this technique.  It's a great way to use up leftover scraps and kits too!

I really love the "Project Life" type of scrapbooking, but I'm not one to document every single day or every single week.  My pictures would be pretty boring and monotonous if I did that.  Instead, I use divided page protectors and "Project Life" types of pages for those occasions where I have way too many photos to scrap on one page.  I just add the divided page protectors in with my regular 12x12" pages...so my albums are a good mix of regular pages and divided pages.  Works great!

Well, today was my 33rd birthday.  I remember when 30 seemed SO OLD...and here I am 33 already.  Wow...time flies.

I had a pretty wonderful day!  It started off with a phone call from my mom, who sang the whole version of "Happy Birthday" to me over the phone...that's kind of a tradition here.  Started my day off with a smile. :)

Hubby surprised me by showing back up at home after he dropped the boys off at school with breakfast, a beautiful card, and a present he had bought me.  He bought me a Project Life kit from HSN when I was watching it a couple of weeks ago when Lisa Bearnson was on there selling PL kits by Becky Higgins.  I had hinted that I really wanted a certain PL kit, and thankfully he took the hint and ordered it for me.  I love it and can't wait to use it! I love that I have a hubby who understands and pays for supports my scrapping addiction.

After I showered and got ready for the day, my sister and mom took me out to lunch (and hubby joined us too).  This afternoon, the hubs took me out to eat Mexican food for supper while my sister watched our youngest son and the other one went to baseball practice.  When we returned to her house to pick up my son, my parents and in-laws were there with birthday cake for me!  What a great surprise!:)

We ate cake and ice cream and had a nice visit.  Then, it was time to come home and get the boys in bed. It's been a great day, and I'm so thankful for the 33 years God has has given me so far.  I had so many friends and family members wish me a happy birthday on Facebook and message boards.  You are all such a blessing to me! Thank you for being in my life.

April So Far - Some Good, Some Bad

Hey everyone!
Well, my lack of blogging has proven that March -- although not nearly as stressful as February, THANK GOD -- was a very busy month!  I hope to blog more in April, but who knows.  Life seems to be getting in the way of blogging time, but hey....life is more important than blogging anyway, right?

I want to thank you all who commented on my last blog post.  Yes, February was a very challenging month for us, but hearing your well wishes and encouragement was really nice.  So thank you for taking the time to read and comment. That means a lot to me.

Well, here we are in April already...can you believe how fast this year is going by?! Seriously.

So far, April has brought us a LOVELY Easter Sunday with friends and family, some much needed rain for our drought-stricken state, the start of baseball season (our favorite!), and oh yeah....the nasty, dreaded stomach virus!  That's right.  My little guy was hit with a very mild case of it on Easter morning (but was fine after taking some Pepto).  I was hit with it on this past Tuesday. Not so mild case for me.  More like stayed-in-bed-all-day, only-getting-up-to-hug-the-toilet, and losing-4-pounds case for mama.  Not fun.  Then, my oldest son started throwing up on this past Wednesday morning.  Right on the day he was supposed to take our state's standardized testing for 4th grade.  Luckily, he only had a very mild case of it and was able to make up that part of the test yesterday.

We're all on the mend, now...and praying hubby doesn't come down with anything. I've been washing and Lysol-ing everything I possibly can.

Even though Evan was still recovering from this tummy bug yesterday, he started baseball season off with pitching for his team last night for most of the game.  He did an AMAZING job, especially for not feeling 100% better yet.  They ended up winning 3-2!  Close game, but they fought back and took the lead.  Very proud of my boy.  And...can we just stop for a minute and see how incredibly grown up he is looking?!

Seriously.  He's looking like a teenager lately (and acting a bit like one too), and I'm just not sure I'm ready for that!  Lord, help me.

Good Riddance, February!

Oh February....you're the shortest month of the year, but you were also one of the craziest months we've had in quite some time.  It was expensive and tiresome, to say the least.

Let's take a look at what February brought us, shall we?:

1.  As hubby and the boys were driving home one night (in my Toyota 4Runner, mind you) during one of our infamous West Texas wind storms, a shopping cart from a local grocery store came speeding down the road out of nowhere.  Hubby didn't see it in time and hit it, crushing in my front bumper and grill.  Thank God no one was hurt, but we got an estimate to repair the damage, and it was $700. OUCH.  Not cool.  Thankfully, our insurance covered all but $250, but still....that was $250 that we were not prepared to spend this month. 

2.  We got the ER visit bill in from when I took my oldest son to our ER at the end of January to check on his hand, which he had hurt at school. We thought he may have broken some bones, so we got x-rays.  Now...I'm not gonna go all political on you, but let me just say...the healthcare system in this country is MESSED UP.  We spent 2 hours in the ER and got 3 x-rays.  When we first got there, it was our first visit to our little county ER, so we had to go through all the new patient paperwork, etc.  The nurse was incredibly RUDE, and the poor older lady taking our insurance info and paperwork didn't have much of a clue.  She asked for my insurance, made a copy of it on her copy machine, commented about how colorful our insurance card was (taking her sweet time the whole time my kid is in PAIN)....During our 2 hours in the ER room, not one nurse or any kind of staff came in to check on us and see if my son was okay.  Toward the end of our visit, an ER doctor came in for less than 2 full minutes, I kid you not.  He simply said, "Well...I don't see anything on the x-rays. We'll get your paperwork ready for you to be discharged."  That's it.  Didn't ask if we had any questions, didn't give any discharge instructions, didn't talk to us about ANYTHING...said those two sentences and walked out.  Fast forward to this month.  This ER doctor sends us a bill for $363 for saying those 2 sentences to us.  And this wasn't the bill from the ER, it was just a bill from this doctor.  The ER bill was close to $650, because guess what? The little old lady taking our paperwork didn't enter any of our insurance info into the computer.  So when we got the bill, it said we had no insurance and had to pay the whole amount ourselves.  WHAT?!!!  She went on and on about how colorful our insurance card was and how most of them are just black and white, yadda yadda yadda....but she didn't include any of that info into our paperwork?  Wow.  So, long story short...we had a massive hospital bill that we had to call and get the run-around about because someone didn't do her job right.  And, like I said - not gonna get on a political soapbox here - but why in the WORLD is healthcare so flippin expensive?!  For someone to come say 2 sentences to us and get
$363 for it...it just blows my mind!

But wait...there's more.....

3.  My Gateway computer that I JUST BOUGHT in November suddenly decided to die.  Ever since I had bought the computer, I would put it to "sleep" at night and would notice in the morning sometimes that it would just completely turn itself off.  No warning or anything...just off.  I thought, "Okay, whatever...maybe it just does that since it's been on so long or something."   So when I tried to turn it back on one morning and discovered that it wouldn't come on at all without a "BOOT DISK" error...I knew I was in deep doo.  We have a PC genius friend who we got to look at it and try to figure out what went wrong, but it even stumped him.  Yeah...we stumped a PC genius.  I'm telling you....that's the kind of month it's been around here.  So, we had to pay to ship my computer to Gateway, and now we're playing the waiting game to see if they can fix it.  Hopefully, the 1-year warranty will cover any expense, seeing as though I've only had it for a few months.  Ugh.

4.  As if car #1 problem wasn't enough, hubby's 2002 Hyundai Elantra decided to start overheating even when he would just drive a few blocks to work and back.  This car is paid for, so it's nice only having one car payment, but...that was all about to come to an end.  We took it to the car shop, and they informed us that he had a blown head gasket.  Only $900+ to order and fix it.  Are you kidding me?!  So, after talking with several people, they advised us to hurry and trade in the car while we still could, or we would probably just have to sell it for parts.  We only have 2 little car dealerships here in this tiny town, so we had to go to a big city an hour away to try to find something else he could drive.  We took a HUGE risk by driving this car an hour away because frankly, we didn't know if it would make it or not.  We had to stop halfway and let it rest/cool off before continuing on the trip.  It got REALLLLLY close to overheating a few times, but by the grace of God, we made it.  I followed hubby in my 4Runner just in case we got stranded somewhere.  So, last Saturday we drove around (with our 2 boys, keep in mind) to every car lot in the hour-away city to try to find something.  Hubby was dead-set on a small truck because we are always needing a truck for something, and let's face it...if we're gonna have another car payment anyway, we might as well get what we want/need, right?  It was exhausting hauling the boys around to truck shop, but they tried to be good at least.  We finally found something we wanted, and thankfully they would take hubby's car as a trade-in, so that helped.  After what felt like HOURS of signing our lives away in the dealership, we finally walked out with a 2011 Nissan Titan.  It's awesome...but oye...all I see right now is another payment.

5.  Winter finally came to Texas, and so we quickly noticed when our central heat wasn't working.  Air was coming on and blowing, but there was no hot air.  Lovely.  Turns out, it was just a little rusted something that needed to be cleaned off and put back on, and then it worked fine.  THANK GOD.  I really couldn't handle another expense at this point.  Seriously.

6.  While trying to leave for church last Sunday, one of the boys used too much toilet paper and then flushed the toilet, and then the next boy came along and used the toilet right after that...causing it to clog up and overflow.  Yeah. Right as I was trying to get them in the car to leave.  I called hubby in a panic (he goes to church before we do because he leads music) and told him to come home IMMEDIATELY.  I didn't know what to do, how to make it stop, and there was already a huge mess all over the bathroom floor.  This was literally like 10 minutes before church was supposed to start, and hubby HAD to be back in time for it to start...so we just pretty much threw down some towels and left.  After church, we came home and hubby went to work on the toilet.  And to spare you gross details, I'll just describe it this way...it was "full," if you know what I mean....with stuff in the toilet and all over the floor.  Disgusting.  After hubby fixed the toilet and got it unclogged and flushable again, I got the awesome joy of being on clean-up duty.  How is this the bathroom that I NEVER use, but yet I got to clean it all up?  Anyway....I spent probably 2-3 hours in there, bleaching, disinfecting, scrubbing, rescrubbing, sanitizing, cursing under my breath, and hoping that I never had to clean up a mess like this again.  And when I was done cleaning the bathroom, I got to start on washing, drying, folding, and putting up all the towels that we had used on the floor.  Not a day I would want to repeat...like, ever.

So you see, I'm so over February.  So glad it's over.  March has GOT to be a better month....right?  RIGHT?!  Oh please, oh please be better to us, March.....
