1st Born, 1st Day, 1st Grade

Well, I am now the mother of a 1st-grader! Yep, Evan started 1st grade today. The morning started off at 6:30 for me. I'm so not a morning person. Got up and got my shower and got dressed. As I was getting dressed, I just started thinking about Evan when he was a baby and learning to walk...then when he was a toddler and the things we used to do, etc. Yeah, I had a quick crying session, and then I was good.

I had the boys' clothes laid out on the couch for them the night before, so all Van had to do was get them dressed. Evan woke up pretty easily and was ready to go. He wanted me to spike his hair up with gel for his first day....hehehe, so cute!

My parents came over very shortly to wish Evan well and to pray with him before we left. Van took some pictures of Evan in our backyard before we got in the car, and then we were on our way! As we drove to school, Evan held my hand and I prayed outloud for him. Yeah, totally lost it and cried all the way through the prayer. What is wrong with me?! This is 1st grade, not Kindergarten....this is supposed to get easier each year, right? ??? Wrong.

When we arrived at school, our friends from church had pulled up at the same time we did. Their daughter and Evan are good buds, so we got to walk into school with them. We took Evan's bag of school supplies to his desk, took his pic at his desk, and then headed to the gym. The 1st graders meet in the gym in the mornings to get in line with their classmates, and then they all head to their classrooms to eat breakfast. I dropped him off at the door of his classroom after another hug and kiss, and at this time, I was feeling a pretty big lump in my throat. He walked in the classroom, and just like that....I had to walk away. Aaron was holding my hand and looked back at Evan's classroom as we were leaving and said a pathetic, sad little, "Byeee bubbaaaa"....and I about lost it right there in the hallway!

The morning went by pretty quickly. I called my sister, Trisha, when I got home because her baby started Kindergarten today. We talked about it all and choked up a few times....but it's such a comfort having a sister to talk to about this whole thing who truly understands the feelings that go along with learning to let your babies go a little. Before we knew it, it was time for lunch, so Van and Aaron and I loaded up and headed back up to the school to have lunch with Evan. He was able to tell us about his day while eating. He had been to computer lab (his favorite) and P.E. and was having a pretty good day. Aaron didn't want to leave after lunch...he wanted to go play on the playground with all the other kids. Try explaining that to a 3-year-old...not fun.

So I got to pick Evan up this afternoon when school was out, and then I took him to a local snocone place and got him a Spiderman snocone on our way home. Great ending to a great school day. :)

I'm so proud of my boys. Aaron will be starting school before I know it, but for now...I will treasure every moment I have at home with him. I am so blessed that I've gotten to be at home with my babies and haven't had to go off to work every day while leaving them with someone. I truly am thankful for getting to be a work-at-home mama! I was watching Evan in the hall at school today as I was waiting on him in the lunch line. He stood there, quietly and respectfully with his little hands behind his back, patiently waiting on instructions from his teacher. Makes me so proud. :)

Here are a few pics of my big boy on his 1st day of school! *sniff, sniff

Sharing a Layout

Wow, looks like I haven't blogged in a while. Even missed my Wordless Wednesday for this past week. Darn. Super busy around here, but I've managed to do some scrapping! Here's a page I did of Aaron at the Ft. Worth Childrens Museum of Science and History. We went there last year as a little get-away for the day, and the boys had a blast! So many hands-on fun things to do and cool things to see. Of course, Aaron loved the Lego table!

Journaling reads:

Oh, how I love to watch you think and figure things out! Those little gears are a-turnin', and those little hands are always moving. I love you, my smart boy!

I haven't announced here on my blog yet (shame on me!), but I made the Design Team for The Scrap Room! I have always LOVED this monthly kit club and am SO honored to be on the team. If you are looking for a great monthly kit club, I highly recommend TSR. I mean, where else do you get a monthly kit with 4 different collections in it, plus a little sample of flavored coffee? Yes, I said coffee. Scrapping AND coffee....the best of both worlds!

I have been busy creating some projects with the September kits...can't wait to post them! :)

A Few More!

A few more layouts I've done this past week!
The first one was a challenge over at Scrapbook Deals 4 U. They are having a summer challenge over there, and this week's challenge was to use the sketch provided, make sure at least one of the pics had me in it, and use the title to a song. So, I scrapped some photos from our HYWWP get together back in June. We found a shopping cart in the parking lot of the hotel and had some races. :)

This second one is from our time at Epcot in June. This lady was so amazing to watch! She is a Japanese candy sculpter. She picked Evan out of the crowd to receive one of her pieces of candy art. He suggested a blue monkey, so she made him a blue monkey sucker, hand painted and all. So cool! My good friend, Rosemary (picture above in the scooter) sent me these beautiful ribbons and brads as a prize, and I knew they'd be perfect for this page! (Thanks, Roe!)

Lastly, these pics are from our first character meal at Disney World. We went to Chef Mickey's, and as you can tell from the photos...the boys LOVED the desserts! :)

Thanks for looking!!!!

Happy Birthday, Evan!

OH my heavens! My Evan is seven! (say THAT three times real fast!)

It's true...my baby turns 7 years old today. *sniff sniff I know it sounds cliche, but man, I just can't believe it. Time really does fly.

Evan was born by Cesarean section on August 8, 2002, at 6:35 p.m. I'll never forget the first time I got to hold him. It was hours after the surgery, and I was still pretty heavily sedated, but I remember looking down at him and seeing this beautiful little angelic face and feeling for the first time....that my life truly had purpose. I was a mom. The most rewarding, yet the most challenging title I could ever have. But I was so thankful and so smitten with this beautiful baby boy in my arms.

Over the past 7 years, I have grown to love this little boy even more than those first precious hours with him. Evan is such a smart boy. He loves being outside and loves learning. He loves art like his daddy. He loves playing games. He's got rhythm. He's got an amazing memory. He's got long, curled eyelashes that most women would pay money for. He's a great big brother. He's super silly at times. He can do the most hilarious dances. He's compassionate and very sensitive. He's my son. And I love him so incredibly much.

Happy Birthday, my sweet Evan James. May today find you filled with joy and surrounded by those who love you and celebrate your life, today and every day.

Here is a video my husband made shortly after Evan was born. I watch it every year on Evan's birthday. And cry...........every single time.

A Layout and Two Cards

Hey everyone! I haven't posted to my blog in a whole week, so I thought I'd start today with a few projects I've made recently. These are all made with Crate Paper's Lillian Collection. After I did the layout, I decided to keep all of the materials out and make a couple of cards right quick, using the stamps from this month's sponsor, Mandarin Pixie, from Have Your Way With Paper. Be sure to come check out the gallery and message board for all the fun stuff happening....there will be a FUN FUN online crop this weekend!

I've got some exciting news to share too....NO, I am not pregnant! LOL It's scrappy-related, and I am just over-the-moon excited about it! Will post soon.....
